Over the past few years, flooding has become a huge problem for the low country here in Charleston, SC. Due to our growing city, the marshlands have begun to fill up with housing developments and other construction projects. While many good things have come from Charleston growing, as the marshlands get filled in, rainfall and natural water sources have begun to spill out into our populated areas, causing extreme flooding whenever storms hit the coast. Our beautiful city was already below sea level before our town became more populated in recent years, so ultimately, the mixture of all of these events have made flooding more of a concern for locals. As these events have occurred, many people within our city have had to adapt and prepare for flood situations.

Carolina Studios was lucky enough to be a part of a Flood Resilience Campaign created by one of Charleston’s local 8th grade science classes, in order to get the word out about flood prone zones within our city. This campaign was put in place as a creative way to inform the people of Charleston how to stay safe in a flood situation.

This group of students wrote a song called “What to Do, What to Watch, Where to Go” about flooding in Charleston and recorded the composition on our recording studio bus. In addition to this song, the students were also able to shoot a music video for the campaign, including the recording we were able to provide for them.

Carolina Studios always enjoys being a part of our local causes, as well as providing students with both an outlet and a platform to get their thoughts and concerns heard within their hometown, through music.
