October 2011 – On October 25th, at 7pm, get ready for the FIRST ANNUAL “Carolina Studios Pro-Am Jam” concert featuring Mark Bryan, Branford Marsalis, Pat Green, Colt Ford, and many more. This unique concert is part of the Nationwide Tour Championship golf tournament at Daniel Island. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Carolina Studios. Carolina Studios is forever indebted to its Board Chairman, Mark Bryan, for offering his talents and getting these other world-class musicians to perform on this special night, and also for coordinating the Celebrity Pro-Am golf tournament earlier in this same day. Admission to the concert requires tickets and they cost $25.00, but you can go watch the Pro-Am golf game for free, featuring 25 teams, each consisting of one celeb, one of the tournament’s pro golfers, and three amateur golfers. Should be pretty entertaining fr sure! Also, a huge thanks to Suntrust Bank, The Piggly Wiggly, Student Transport of America (STA), Bob Moran, Frank Antonelli, and Denis Gallagher, and all of the people who are working very hard behind the scenes to make this unique event happen. August 28th, 2011 — Carolina Studios to benefit from Pour House fundraiser – Get geared up and come on out to the Chatrleston Pour House on Maybank Highway on Sunday, August 28th. June 2, 2010 — Carolina Studios receives grant from NAMM Fundation – We are very excited to receive a grant from the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation. The grant is supposed to help non profit organizations that foster music-making for children…a perfect match for us for sure. Carolina Studios was one of 35 organizations nationally that received funds. We are very excited to have this type of organization stand behind us and we know it will help many more children in the next year!

May 2010 — Carolina Studios to be beneficiary of EYE LEVEL ART LOUNGE NIGHTS – Eye Level Art is a very unique art gallery located at 103 Spring Street downtown. It features unique oil paintings and other inspiring artworks that will really move you. The gallery’s owner, Mike Elder, has announced that he will be opening a new part of the gallery called the ELA Lounge. The lounge will host various artists and musicians and movies, along with a full bar, every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this summer starting at 11:00am! ELA also hosts movies on Thursday evenings. These events start on Thursday, May 26th. A HUGE thanks goes out to Mike for making this happen. May 19th, 2011 – Carolina Studios is very excited to announce a continued partnership with Piccolo Spoleto, whereby Carolina Studios’ children will get to perform their own songs live in front of large, diversified groups of people. They will perform at the Piccolo Spoleto Finale at Hampton Park on June 10th at 6:20pm. Participation in the performance will be a reward for children who excel in the program and exert the best behavioral skills. March 2011 — Mark Bryan to participate in Roper’s Spirit of Caring Golf Tournament. Tee off on Daniel Island this May, help a nurse go to school and hit the links with a rock star all at the same time. The Spirit of Caring Golf Tournament is back and – as is par for the course – the 2011 edition will benefit the Roper St. Francis Healthcare (RSFH) Nursing Scholarship Fund. The tournament will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Ralston Creek Golf Club and Hootie and the Blowfish founding member Mark Bryan will trade in his guitar for a golf club to take part in the event. Last year’s tournament raised more than $50,000.

March 2011 — Carolina Studios announces launch of “Song of the Month” and its monthly blog on Facebook . Starting in the beginning of March, 2011, Carolina Studios’ staff will choose one song to be be awarded as the Carolina Studios “Song of the Month”. This song will be posted on Carolina Studios’ Facebook Page along with a description of the children who created it, and some basic info on how they did. Also starting in March is the Carolina Studios blog, currently authored by Mark Bryan, Board Chairman and lead guitarist from Hootie and the Blowfish. September 22, 2010 — Carolina Studios to benefit from CofC Multimedia Performance at CofC’s Sottile Theater on Nov 3rd and 5th, 2010, at 8pm each night. The event is called
“Between The Lines” and features two performances by
ENTROPY ENSEMBLE , a very smooth and unique all-instrumental musical group. They have toured extensively in North America, and have received high praise from a number of critics. They are currently covering a whole set of songs by the popular band known as RADIOHEAD using a more authentic sounding format reminiscent of a cross between a chamber music concert and an improvisational jam session. April 15, 2010 — Carolina Studios to be beneficiary of ROCKSTOCK 2010 – The College of Charleston’s Public Relations Student Society of America (aka: PRSSA) is putting on it’s second annual highly popular ROCKSTOCK this April 15th at the Music Farm. The event will feature a host of live music and will go from 7:00pm until 2:00am. This year’s lineup features Spartanburg-based Southern rock group After August,reggae-rock band The Plainfield Project (voted Charleston’s Best Local Band three years in a row), and the soulful blues-rock of Gaslight Street! Also, DJ TanTrum will spin between sets. Carolina Studios would like to extend a special thanks out to LAUREN ASHLEY for making all of this happen for us. Lauren was an intern for Carolina Studios last summer and was integral in the promotion of our world-class Toots & The Maytals fundraising concert and auction.
December 2009 — Carolina Studios to receive Innovative Programming Award. Carolina Studios is very excited to announce that it will receive the 2009 Innovative Programming Award from the Recreational Arts and Programming Branch of the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association. The award will be presented by the Executive Director of the SC Recreation and Parks Association at the Charleston City Council meeting at City Hall on Broad Street on December 15th at 5:00pm. This award is given annually to an organization that demonstrates exceptional innovation in design, presentation, and implementation in the parks and recreation field in South Carolina. This award is contemporaneous with Carolina Studios’ newest location opening in the Forest Park Playground in West Ashley, but also with the massive progress the organization has made in 2009.
August 2009 — Carolina Studios to be at Shinefest on October 17th! Shinefest is Charleston’s newest all-day charity music festival, featuring a bundle of popular local bands, plus Blues Traveler, The Wailers, The Blue Dogs, Jeff Sipe, and Jeff Coffin. The event is to take place at the Joe Riley Stadium downtown. Carolina Studios will have an info table and a digital workstation set up for kids to see what our program is all about.

TOOTS & THE MAYTALS CONFIRMED FOR ANNUAL FUNDRAISER ON JULY 24TH – Carolina Studios is very excited to announce that Grammy-award-winning and internationally known reggae artist, Toots & The Maytals will headline their annual fundraising event on Friday, July 24th, 2009 at Patriot’s Point. The event will host a VIP charity auction and will include opening performances by children who have excelled in the Carolina Studios media arts program. The event has been made possible by the producers of Rockin’ On The Point, who generously offered to let Carolina Studios book a larger than normal act to end this year’s ROTP series with a big bang. CAROLINA STUDIOS ON THE TAMMY SHOW — February 2009
The Tammy Show on local Comcast Channel 2 will air a program in late Febrary on our organization. The television program will feature board chairman, Mark Bryan, and our Executive Director, Johnnie Mitchell in an exciting interview with Tammy. Look out for the show at 10:00am and 10:00pm every day.
